Best Gulet home port for first-timers
We congratulate your idea to spend the summer holidays on board a gulet at the Adriatic. Still, you haven’t chosen the home port as a starting point for your Adriatic adventure. As a first-timer, you probably still have some doubts and concerns about specific spots you would like to visit. Nobody wants to be disappointed with their holidays, especially in a new country. Therefore, we can give you a hint that might be helpful.
Croatian Adriatic coast stretches from Istria on the NW, bordering Slovenia and Italy, to SE, where Croatia meets the border with Montenegro. The very well-indented coastline includes nearly a hundred islands and several hundreds of islets with rocks and reefs. It is too much to see them all in one week of sailing. Deciding where to start sailing, one has to choose the region of the Adriatic that might be the most interesting at the moment.
To the first timer Split region might seem the most convenient place to begin. Firstly, Split refers to the center of Dalmatia (Croatia’s most significant coastal region) regarding its accessibility by air, ground, or sea. Split airport is located some 30 minutes away from the city port. At the same time, Croatia’s major highway connects Split with primary European road connections, not to mention that Split port is one of the most frequent ones in the Adriatic.
On the other hand, thanks to its location, Split refers to the ideal home port to embark on the gulet regardless of your route. You may choose to sail Central Dalmatia, which includes the most famous Adriatic islands such as Brač, Hvar, Šolta, or Vis, or take the southern route towards Korčula, Lastovo or Mljet.
