Airport and transport – Island Hvar (2.7 km); airport Split (around 60 km).
History – human presence from 4th century BC; according to the Hvar Statute (14th century) the island was communal property of Island Hvar and reserved for general pasturing; grain crops used to be grown here (in old times, due to night dew); in Stare Stine there was an old quarry where gypsum was picked up (used in the Baroque chapels of Hvar’s Cathedral).
Interesting to see: well preserved Illyrian tumuli of imposing dimensions (BC); remnants of the mosaic of the Roman villa (bay Rake); remains of a Dominican monastery, hospice for sailors and church of St. Mary of Charity (15th century; Bay Mostir); on south side there is a wing from the plain from WWII (fuselage is in the sea).
Info – 15 inhabitants (summertime 30); well indented coasts; coastline 25.3 km; highest point Vela glava, 112 m; there is no electricity (except through solar energy and generator) or running water (rainwater tank; analyzed every year to sustain a good water quality); island is covered with pine trees, and due specific climate and rich vegetation a very fertile soil (for sage, rosemary and oregano); helicopter platform.

Good to know: in 2008, British author Charles Arnold in his book “Mediterranean Islands” assign award “a peaceful oasis” to Scedro as the most peaceful island (among analyzed 200) in the Mediterranean.
